Mesh Wifi

So far the easiest to use and quickest to install wifi systems would be Open-Mesh. Based out of Oregon, delivering low priced, open source technology that has been years in the making.

Some questions that we have approached the Open Mesh about:

Question: Wifi Splash page and Access Point questions?

Hello,

My name is Dave and I have hopefully have a quick couple of questions. Wondering if it is possible to have a wifi user go through the splash page and not be presented with the splash page again while roaming to another access point? I know that mac address whitelisting will take care of this issue but that would entail adding mac addresses for every device on the network and no splash page would be shown in the first place.
I think I know the answer for my second question but I just wanted to doublecheck. Is it possible to configure the Access Points to be added to a pre-existing non-Open Mesh wifi network as repeaters? I assume that the whole network would have to be Open Mesh to add repeaters as they discover each other like this.
Thank you for your time regarding these matters.

This is possible if you use vouchers – voucher authenticated users will not see the splash page again until the voucher expires.

2. No this is not possible – those devices do not have the mesh architecture within their firmware.

Question: More then 253 internet users on the wifi network

Using 8 different access points wired to ethernet cables,  how can this be possible?

Each OM2P connected via wire will issue its own DHCP address range – 352 IP’s won’t be an issue.

In a hotel, using SSID#1 where the wireless unit handles NAT is what you’ll want – this will ensure users cannot access any local resources or see other users on the network.
